The awards come after a string of others, as well as three Golden Globe nominations, putting the film in a good position for the Oscars early next year.

Michael Sheen also received an award for the film - he took best supporting actor for his role as Tony Blair.

Other winners included Sacha Baron Cohen who took the best actor award and Cate Blanchett who took the best supporting actress prize for her role as disgraced schoolteacher in Notes on a Scandal.
