Star Trek into Darkness has received a three-frame first look from JJ Abrams.
The director teased Conan O'Brien with a very brief clip from his upcoming sequel in a video posted by Team Coco.
"Paramount was really unhappy with me at the idea of bringing anything," said Abrams. "They said, 'OK, but it's got to be really short... It can't be longer than three frames'.
"This is a scene where Spock... is in a volcano in this crazy suit."
Zachary Quinto will reprise his role as the Vulcan, and will be joined by a returning cast including Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg and Anton Yelchin.
Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Peter Weller have been added to the lineup for Star Trek 2.
The full title of the film - the details of which remain closely guarded - was announced in September.
Star Trek into Darkness will be released worldwide on May 17, 2013.
