The cartoonist discussed his previous and forthcoming movie projects at Las Vegas Comics Expo, reports Comic Book Resources.
He added that "there's no word on Hellboy 3" despite there having been "a little bit of talk" between himself, del Toro and star Ron Perlman at San Diego Comic-Con International.
He described the first Hellboy adaptation as "del Toro trying to make a Mike Mignola movie", adding that the second outing was the director's vision rather than his own.
"Lots of things in it are cool," Mignola said, but claimed to prefer the first film.
Joe Golem and the Drowning City, Mignola's collaboration with Christopher Golden, is also being developed into a movie by Alex Proyas.
Hellboy will return on December 5 in Hellboy in Hell #1.
