Ransone will portray a doctor who works with lead actress Elizabeth Olsen's character. No further details of the role have been disclosed, though it is expected to be a minor part.

Oldboy, a remake of Chan-wook Park's 2003 revenge-thriller, also stars Josh Brolin, Samuel L Jackson and Sharlto Copley.

Olsen previously told Digital Spy that the contemporary version of the film will not shy away from depicting the scenes of extreme violence that featured in the original.

Oldboy is due to open in cinemas on 2013.
