The studio has appointed The Wolverine scribe Mark Bomback to rework the screenplay for Matt Reeves's sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Scott Z Burns, Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa have all previously worked on the script, which is said to follow on from the events depicted in Rupert Wyatt's Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes, on which Bomback did uncredited work, starred James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, David Oyelowo and Andy Serkis.
The movie was a box office success, raking in $481.8 million (£300m) worldwide on a budget of just $93 million (£58m).
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is scheduled for release on May 23, 2014.
