The George Miller-helmed sequel has exceeded its budget and fallen a week behind schedule, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Warner Bros head Jeff Robinov is understood to have flown to Namibia, where the movie is shooting, to assess the situation and help steer the project back on course.
Producer Denise di Novi was dispatched on set following Robinov's visit to oversee the movie, but will not receive a producer credit on the film.
Robinov is said to be optimistic that Mad Max: Fury Road will be completed ahead of its deadline at the end of November.
Mad Max: Fury Road stars Tom Hardy as the title character, with Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult and Zoe Kravitz in supporting roles.
The upcoming film is the fourth instalment in the franchise, following the Mel Gibson trilogy of the 1970s and '80s.
