Quentin Tarantino has implied that Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained play like the first two parts of a trilogy.

The helmer also hinted at a third part in the unofficial trilogy during a recent interview with Total Film.

"Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained bespeak a trilogy," Tarantino revealed.

"As different as they are, there is a companion-piece quality. There might very well be a third one. I just don't know what it is yet."

2009 adventure drama Inglourious Basterds chronicled a group of Jewish American soldiers' fictional plan to assassinate Nazi leaders.

Tarantino's upcoming Django Unchained stars Jamie Foxx as a slave-turned-bounty-hunter who sets out to save his wife (Kerry Washington) from a vicious slave trader (Leonardo DiCaprio).

Christoph Waltz won an Oscar for his turn as ruthless, charismatic SS officer Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds, and is also a co-star in Django Unchained as a former dentist who joins Foxx's Django on his journey.
