Jodie Foster to get Golden Globe career achievement award

Jodie Foster is to receive a special career achievement Golden Globe award.

The Taxi Driver star is to be given the prestigious 'Cecil B DeMille' prize in January at the Golden Globes ceremony, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has confirmed.

Foster is being honoured for contributions to cinema as an actress in films such as The Accused and The Silence of the Lambs as well as her directorial work on films including Home for the Holidays.

The actress is the fourth-youngest recipient of the Cecil B DeMille Award at age 50.

Past winners include Walt Disney, Warren Beatty, Steven Spielberg, Robert De Niro and Morgan Freeman.

The Golden Globe Awards 2013 are held on January 13, 2013 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Foster returns to the big screen for Neil Blomkamp's science fiction epic Elysium, opening on August 9 in US cinemas. A UK release has not yet been announced.
