'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' arena scenes to be shot in IMAX

Key portions of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire have been shot in iMAX, it has been confirmed.

Josh Hutcherson, who reprises his role as Peeta Mellark in the sequel, revealed to MTV that the arena sequences will all be shown in IMAX format and have been filmed using IMAX cameras.

"All the stuff in the arena is going to be IMAX," Hutcherson explained. "So when you go see it in IMAX, you'll see the regular movie when we're in the Districts and in the Capitol.

"When you see us go up in the pod in the games, it will open up into IMAX. It will be amazing. It's very cool."

The actor went on to discuss the new sets for the film, including the intricate arena for the Quarter Quell games which combines a jungle environment with large areas of sea water, arranged to form a large clock face.

"They actually built a cornucopia in Atlanta that we shot at, and it looks amazing. The way that the spokes got out, and the way everyone comes up on the pedestals and the water… it looks incredible," he said.

Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson and Donald Sutherland will all reprise their Hunger Games roles, while new cast members include Sam Claflin, Jena Malone and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Lawrence recently described the filming experience as "like being a sophomore in high school" because of the level of familiarity now shared among the cast and crew.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will open on November 22, 2013.
