'Guardians of the Galaxy': Eight actors audition for Star-Lord role

Guardians of the Galaxy has eight actors auditioning for the role of Star-Lord.

Joel Edgerton (Zero Dark Thirty), Garrett Hedlund (On the Road), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), James Marsden (X-Men), Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies), Eddie Redmayne (Les Misérables), Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas) and Sullivan Stapleton (Animal Kingdom) are in the running for the part, reports Deadline.

Peter Quill - aka Star-Lord - is a half-human, half-alien hero who was made the leader of the latest iteration of the Guardians when it launched in 2008.

He seemingly died at the conclusion of The Thanos Imperative before returning to battle Thanos in Avengers Assemble.

Super director James Gunn will direct the movie, which will also feature the characters Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon and Groot.

The film will be part of Marvel Studios' 'Second Wave', which will also include Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Ant-Man and Avengers 2.

The Guardians comic series will relaunch under the new Marvel NOW! banner with writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Steve McNiven.

Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled to debut on August 1, 2014.
