The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has debuted a new TV spot.

The advert offers a first, brief glimpse of JRR Tolkien's villainous dragon Smaug as he attacks a city.

Benedict Cumberbatch will voice the creature, who makes his nest in an abandoned dwarven kingdom full of treasure.

The tale centres around Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), who is enlisted to help the dwarves reclaim their ancestral home from Smaug.
