Joss Whedon hands in 'Avengers 2' outline

Joss Whedon has turned in his Avengers 2 outline to Marvel Studios.

The writer/director has completed the early stage of the 2015 sequel's development, reports EW.

It has also been revealed that Jeffrey Bell, Maurissa Tancharoen and brother Jed Whedon will serve as showrunners on the S.H.I.E.L.D. television show.

The Marvel Comics-inspired show is scheduled to begin filming on January 1 with a cast including Brett Dalton, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, Ming-Na Wen, and Clark Gregg.

The Whedons wrote the pilot with Tancharoen. Joss Whedon is set to direct.

Few details have been announced for Avengers 2. It will be released on May 1, 2015, with Thanos confirmed as the movie's villain.

Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L Jackson are all expected to return for the sequel.
