'Amazing Spider-Man 2': Star returns for sequel

Martin Sheen will return for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The actor has confirmed that he will reprise his role as Uncle Ben in the follow-up to the 2012 movie.

"They've called me back," he told RTÉ Television.

"I don't know what the part is going to be, but I'm going to be Uncle Ben once again in Spider-Man next year. We shoot it in February."

The West Wing star previously said that he wanted to return for the sequel, despite his character dying in the first film.

Uncle Ben's death famously spurs his nephew Peter Parker to become a superhero.

Sheen joins Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Shailene Woodley, Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan on Marc Webb's follow-up movie for Sony Pictures.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will begin production in early 2013, with its release scheduled for May 2, 2014.

The channel has teased the interview - which is yet to be released online - with a clip of an audience member staring into the camera, which can be seen below:
