Jackson famously played Jedi Master Mace Windu in George Lucas's Star Wars prequels, with the character also appearing in the franchise's expanded universe.

He was asked about the likelihood of playing Mace Windu on the big screen once again while attending the Spike TV Video Game Awards last Friday (December 7).

"[I'm] totally geeked by the idea of there being more Star Wars," Jackson declared to E! News. "It's like, okay, Obi-Wan was dead when episode four started, so maybe everyone thinks I'm dead and we'll find out what happened to Mace Windu.

"I can come back as one-armed or a one-handed Jedi that's still around that didn't actually die."

Jackson went on to say that he is open to any ideas from the new Star Wars production team on reviving Mace Windu.

"[I could] be a ghost hologram. I don't care," he quipped. "I just want to stay associated with the franchise. Not that I won't because I've been in three of them."

Ewan McGregor, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill have also expressed a willingness to return to the franchise, with Harrison Ford also reportedly hoping to play Han Solo again.

Star Wars director Lucas has revealed that he will not play a major role in the next film's development beyond an advisory capacity.
