The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey premieres in the UK this evening (December 12) with a Royal Film Performance in London's Leicester Square.
Members of the Royal Family including Prince William are expected to attend, alongside the film's stars Martin Freeman, Sir Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Richard Armitage and director Peter Jackson.
Kate Middleton was originally set to attend, but pulled out of the event yesterday.
Jackson's long-awaited return to Middle-earth will be screened in 3D, and at the much-discussed higher frame rate of 48fps.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the first in a trilogy of Hobbit films, will be released on December 13 in the UK, and December 14 in the US.
