Latino Review claims to have learned that Will Beall's script for the DC Comics-inspired project will be based on a three-issue Justice League of America storyline by Gerry Conway and George Perez.
The plot in question was published in 1980, running between issues #183 and #185 of the comic. Heroes from DC's Justice Society of America also featured in the plotline, suggesting a lengthy cast of characters should it come to screens.
A director for Justice League is yet to be appointed and its release is more than two years away, but the project remains the subject of intense speculation.
Zack Snyder's Man of Steel has been strongly tipped as a precursor to the film, with Henry Cavill possibly reprising his role as Superman. Joseph Gordon-Levitt was linked with the part of Batman until he dismissed the rumour.
Justice League will be released during the summer of 2015.
