'Star Trek Into Darkness' new extended trailer released - watch video

By
Star Trek Into Darkness has released a new extended trailer.

The promo, a longer version of the announcement teaser that debuted earlier this month, serves up previously unseen footage from JJ Abrams's sci-fi sequel with an accompanying voiceover by Bruce Greenwood's Captain Christopher Pike.

The first nine minutes of Star Trek Into Darkness have been showing in front of screenings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey since December 13.

The footage introduces Benedict Cumberbatch's villain John Harrison, who promises Noel Clarke he can save his ailing daughter. The story then tracks the Enterprise crew, stationed on the planet Nibiru, as they aid Spock (Zachary Quinto) in his attempts to extinguish a volatile volcano.

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, John Cho, Anton Yelchin and Simon Pegg all reprise their roles from the first film, while Damon Lindelof joins original scripters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.

Star Trek Into Darkness will open in IMAX 3D and conventional cinemas on May 14, 2013.
