Vin Diesel to play Kojak in new film adaptation from 'Skyfall' writers

By
Vin Diesel is to play legendary TV detective Kojak in a cinematic reboot.

The New York cop, easily identified by his bald head and trademark lollipop, was portrayed by Telly Savalas in the CBS series from 1973 to 1978 and in a number of TV movies.

Deadline reports that Universal Pictures is intent on bringing a new iteration of the character to cinemas, and has lined up Vin Diesel to star.

Diesel will also produce the film alongside Samantha Vincent for their production company One Race Films.

The film will be written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, the screenwriting duo behind the last five James Bond films, including this year's phenomenally successful Skyfall.

The pair announced recently that Skyfall would be their last Bond movie, as they looked to pursue other projects.

Diesel will next be seen in The Fast and the Furious 6, which filmed in London and Glasgow this summer.
