If cast, Rapace would join Tom Hardy, who is said to have entered final talks for the Michael R Roskam-directed film.

Animal Rescue centres around a criminal whose attempts to fly straight are put in jeopardy when he becomes entangled in a failed heist and a death caused by a lost pit bull.

The film will be based on a short story by Dennis Lahane, who also wrote the works which films Gone Baby Gone, Shutter Island and Mystic River were adapted from. He is also working on the screenplay adaptation.

Rapace will next be seen in Dead Man Down.
