"Well, like anything in this in life, you only go through these kinds of stages... there are just a small number of these kinds of stages in life," he said during a 'Future of Star Wars' interview.

"Retirement is, you know, filled with a lot of sadness and at the same time filled with a lot of excitement and exhilaration in starting a new life.

"It's like when you leave home to go to college, you know like when you get married. There are things that you know are like scary and fun, and you know I'm looking forward to trying new things."

Lucas added that Disney was the natural home for his Star Wars franchise.
