Ewan McGregor has not ruled out appearing in a sequel to the Danny Boyle-directed film Trainspotting.

The actor starred in the movie based on an Irvine Welsh novel in 1996, alongside Jonny Lee Miller, Kelly Macdonald and Kevin McKidd.

In 2002, Welsh released a follow-up to the novel called Porno, prompting discussion of a possible film adaptation.

While McGregor has said in the past that a sequel would be "a terrible shame", he has now admitted that he would at least be open to the idea.

He told the Daily Record: "I know in the past I always said I wouldn't do anything that would damage the reputation of the movie Trainspotting because I wouldn't want to do a poor sequel, but at the same time, I would always read it if I was sent it.

"I was never in the position where they've asked me to do it."

McGregor currently stars in the new disaster drama The Impossible with Naomi Watts.
