Deadline reports that Darabont, writer/director of The Shawshank Redemption and original showrunner of The Walking Dead, has been hired to do a final rewrite on Max Borenstein's script.

The film has already reportedly been re-written by English screenwriter Drew Pearce, who recently completed work on Iron Man 3.

The report also claims that the producers of the film are currently at loggerheads, with Warner Bros-based producers Dan Lin and Roy Lee clashing with Legendary Pictures producers.

Legendary is apparently attempting to pay off Lin and Lee to end their involvement with the new film, as they have refused to back down on fees that were made as part of the original deal.

Godzilla will be released on May 16, 2014 opposite Ninja Turtles, Michael Bay's reboot of the much-loved 1980s comic.
