The nominations for the 84th Academy Awards were announced earlier today by Emma Stone and ceremony host Seth MacFarlane.

Stars, filmmakers, critics and fans have already been weighing in with their responses to Hollywood's biggest and glitziest awards show.

Read on below for the responses from those who were nominated and more.

Adele ('Best Song', Skyfall)
"Oh my god I feel like Meryl Streep!! Thank you x"

David O Russell ('Best Director', 'Best Picture' Silver Linings Playbook)
"I'm beyond grateful, since I didn't know what to expect. I'm especially over the moon for my actors. The fact that Bob (Robert De Niro) and Jacki Weaver were nominated is amazing."

Ang Lee ('Best Director', 'Best Picture', Life of Pi)
"I am deeply honoured and frankly a little overwhelmed by all of the nominations that Life of Pi has received this morning. So many talented people gave everything they had to this film, both in front of and behind the camera, and to see all of them receive this kind of recognition is something I am incredibly grateful for."

Anna Kendrick ('Best Animated Feature', ParaNorman)
"Congratulations to Chris Butler, Sam Fell and all the PARANORMAN team on the Oscar Nod! I'm truly grateful to have been a part of it."

Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Silver Linings Playbook
Beasts of the Southern Wild, Quvenzhane Wallis

Rich Moore ('Best Animated Feature', Wreck-It Ralph)
"I had no idea it was going to hit me so hard last night. I woke up right at 5am and turned on E! I was in my living room when I heard my name called and my jaw hit the floor. I'm over the moon! I'm so proud of the movie and happy for our crew."

Lucy Alibar ('Best Adapted Screenplay', Beasts of the Southern Wild)
"I was completely surprised by it and truly wasn't expecting anything at all. We've come so far with nothing. To see Benh (Zeitlin) up there for director, it became a little surreal but I'm incredibly happy for him. I'm also so thrilled for Quvenzhane Wallis. She's an incredible actress and such a sweet person, she feels like a daughter to me."

Bradley Cooper ('Best Actor', Silver Linings Playbook)
"Ben Affleck got robbed."

Anne Hathaway, Les Miserables still
'Life of Pi' still

Michael Moore ('Best Documentary' Oscar winner, Bowling for Columbine)
"Congrats to all five Oscar nominees for Best Documentary! Every one of these films is outstanding. This is one of the best lists I've seen."

Chloë Grace Moretz
"So amazing seeing Jen last night, major congrats on her Oscar nom :) #jenniferlawrence x"

Debra Hayward (Best Picture, Les Misérables)
"I'm absolutely over the moon, I'm still pinching myself. I'm in LA, and bizarrely I woke up knowing it was going to happen after 5am and I woke up just before then. I was sitting in my bed channel surfing to find CNN and just sat and watched it unfold. It was quite surreal listening to it being read out. It's magic.

"My bit of the journey is nothing compared to Cameron Mackintosh, Claude-Michel Schönberg, Herbert Kretzmer and Alain Boublil. I couldn't be more thrilled for them."

Russell Crowe
"Congrats to @realhughjackman and Anne Hathaway and all involved with @LesMiserables, love and congrats to Jackie Weaver too, wonderful news."
