Tina Fey: 'Golden Globes will be sloppiest award show ever'

By
Tina Fey has jokingly referred to this weekend's Golden Globe Awards as the most important event of the modern era.

Fey will be joined by Parks and Recreation's Amy Poehler to helm Sunday's gala for the very time.

The 30 Rock actress and Poehler promoted the Golden Globes in a joint interview with Entertainment Weekly, where Fey promised a night that viewers will remember.

"[This year will be] the sloppiest, best ever. The defining moment for a generation," Fey joked, adding: "But that generation is people who are currently in their nineties. And they've seen some stuff, so that's actually saying more."

Poehler added: "Tina and I have done a lot of research and we found out that our demo is 90-year-olds and babies. So we're going to try to shape the show so that both people like it."

Fey went on to say that she and Poehler likely will not be emulating the controversial style of Ricky Gervais, who hosted the last three Golden Globe Awards.

"I think he got up there and did exactly what he wanted to do. Who am I to say what's too far?" Fey said of Gervais's pointed jabs at Hollywood.

Poehler echoed her co-host's comments, saying: "We had a lot of fun sitting in the audience, and I thought his jokes were really good.

"We come from a land from a lot of healthy teasing, so maybe our personal boundaries of jokes are different than others... It's a night of awards, so it's not serious. Nor should it be."

Fey and Poehler are nominated against each other in the 'Best Actress in a Television Series - Comedy' category, where they are also competing with New Girl's Zooey Deschanel, Lena Dunham of Girls and Veep actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

NBC airs the 70th annual Golden Globes on Sunday, January 13.
