'This is 40' still

The movie has drawn some complaints for focusing too much on the minutiae of family life, but Apatow recently insisted that some critics entirely missed the point.

"One person said, 'There wasn't enough story'. But that's the whole point of the movie," the filmmaker explained to GQ.

He went on to say: "[This Is 40 is] not about a gigantic incident happening. It's about the normal ebb and flow of your family life and your relationship - the little moments of connecting or not connecting. And not understanding why."

Apatow also recently described This is 40 as a sign of his maturity following a string of films and televisions shows about adolescence.
