The Mary Poppins star was announced to be the recipient of this year's award back in August, in recognition of his career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment.
"From his career-changing Broadway turn in Bye Bye Birdie and his deadpan humour in the Emmy winning Dick Van Dyke Show, to his unforgettable performance as Bert in Mary Poppins, he sets a high bar for actors," the guild's co-president Ken Howard said.
Reiner created The Dick Van Dyke Show, while also co-starring in the sitcom as Van Dyke's producer Alan Brady.
Dick Van Dyke has previously won five Emmys, one Tony Award and a Grammy.
Julie Andrews, Betty White, Clint Eastwood and Frank Sinatra are among previous recipients of the Life Achievement Award.
The awards ceremony will air live on TNT and TBS.
