Warner Bros is said to be negotiating with Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment regarding the rights to the property.
Talks regarding the hit 1984 black comedy/horror and its sequel have been intermittent over the years, but Vulture is reporting that an agreement is looking more likely than ever before.
The reboot is believed to have been held back by the amount of money Spielberg has been asking for the rights, and his demands to be involved in any Gremlins project.
The film and its 1990 sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch were directed by Joe Dante and produced by Spielberg.
They starred Zach Galligan as a young man who comes into possession of a cute but very dangerous pet.

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Overcoming the middle-child syndrome that's felled many a second instalment (looking at you, The Two Towers) Empire's combination of high emotional stakes, snatches of shrewd dialogue and a newly dark tone elevated it far above its franchise. It's the best of the Star Wars films, and then some.
