Tom Hanks has reportedly landed the the biggest pay cheque in Hollywood history to star in the follow-up to The Da Vinci Code.

The two-time Oscar-winner is said to have negotiated a fee of between £15 million and £25 million to star in the screen adaptation of Dan Brown's best-selling novel Angels and Demons.

Hanks will reprise his role as Robert Langdon, a professor of religious iconography who is sent to investigate the murder of a Swiss scientist.

The film will be directed by Ron Howard, who also helmed The Da Vinci Code.
