Gore Verbinski is to direct an adaptation of the graphic novel Pyongyang.

The Pirates of the Caribbean filmmaker is currently finishing up work on The Lone Ranger, which is set to release in August this year.

Now Deadline reports that Verbinski has lined up an adaptation of Guy Delisle's acclaimed graphic novel as his next project.

The script will be written by The Pursuit of Happyness screenwriter Steve Conrad, who also wrote the script for the upcoming Ben Stiller vehicle The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Delisle's Pyongyang is the story of a young animator who is sent to the titular North Korean town and subsequently accused of espionage.

As well as post-production duties on The Lone Ranger, Verbinski is also currently working on "emotion-driven" Xbox Kinect game Matter.
