Simon Pegg on 'Star Wars': 'I haven't spoken to JJ Abrams about role'

By and Tom Mansell

Simon Pegg has said that he hasn't been approached by JJ Abrams about appearing in Star Wars Episode 7.

Pegg, who worked with Abrams on Mission: Impossible and the Star Trek movie, said that there is "no script yet" for the Star Wars sequel.

"I've spoken to him and congratulated him but it's not written so there's no casting or anything," Pegg told Digital Spy. "[Me having a role] just hasn't come up."

On the long-standing rivalry between Star Wars and Star Trek fans, Pegg said: "I've never come across anyone who likes Star Trek but hates Star Wars.

"If you are that, then that's clearly a sign of some kind of illness. There's room for everybody. I think it's great JJ's doing it. I hope he does more films with 'Star' before them as the first word!"

Asked when fans could expect to see the first trailers from The World's End - the third film in his and Edgar Wright's 'Cornetto Trilogy' - Pegg suggested that teasers might start to emerge in March or April.

Star Trek Into Darkness opens in cinemas on May 16, while The World's End is due on August 14.
