The actor was approached by "Will Ferrell's people" to gauge his interest in playing a "Rupert Murdoch-type figure in Ferrell's next film", which would presumably mean the Anchorman sequel which begins filming next month.
According to Ain't It Cool News, Stamp said that he would be keen to take part in the film but has not officially been offered the role.
Paul Rudd and producer Judd Apatow recently discussed the sequel with Digital Spy, with Rudd expressing his hope that audiences will still be interested in the film despite the nine years that have passed since the 2004 release of Anchorman.
It was confirmed recently that Kristen Wiig will appear in Anchorman: The Legend Continues, while Rudd, Ferrell and Steve Carrell will reprise their roles from the first film.
