The Miramax studios founder, who now heads The Weinstein Company, met the comedian through mutual friend James Corden and predicted that he will become a successful Hollywood actor.
"He's the next big British thing. I love Jack, he's so funny. He'd be great in movies," The Sun quotes Weinstein as saying.
A source added: "Harvey thought Jack was hilarious. He's spent a lot of time in England over the years, so he gets our sense of humour.
"He reckons Jack has got the whole package - looks, wit and acting ability. There isn't really anything like him over there at the moment. It's great news for Jack - Harvey's taste is impeccable."
Whitehall, who once auditioned to be Harry Potter, has moved into acting in recent years, starring in Fresh Meat and Bad Education.
Weinstein has served as executive producer on films including Django Unchained, Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2, Inglourious Basterds and The King's Speech.
