The adaptation of William Shakespeare's beloved comedy stars former Angel actors Alexis Denisof and Amy Acker, in the roles of sparring lovers Benedick and Beatrice.
The supporting cast is also made up largely of actors with whom Whedon has worked before, including Firefly stars Nathan Fillion and Sean Maher and The Avengers' Clark Gregg.
Whedon's retelling updates Much Ado to a contemporary setting, but uses Shakespeare's original text with some modifications.
It was shot in 12 days at Whedon's home in Santa Monica, California, just after he finished shooting The Avengers in 2011.
The film had its UK premiere at the Glasgow Film Festival last month.
Much Ado About Nothing will be released in the UK on June 14, and in the US on June 21.
