The senior visual effects supervisor said that director Zack Snyder has "trimmed back" the more fantastic elements from the comic book source material.
"I can't talk too much about Man of Steel yet, and I haven't seen the whole thing yet, but overall it's the story that's most exciting," he told Bleeding Cool. "It's a nice re-envisioning of the story of Superman leaving his homeworld and coming to this new one.
"If you look at what Zack [Snyder] has done you'll see that they've abandoned a lot of the pretence that was in the comics and asked 'Can we still make this work?'
"They're sticking to realism as much as possible. Fantastic elements are still there but a lot of it has been trimmed back to make it feel as though this actually happened."
Snyder has promised that, despite the realistic approach to the story, he is "not trying to take the super out of Superman".
Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, Russell Crowe, Michael Kelly, Harry Lennix and Richard Schiff will feature in the Superman reboot.
Warner Bros' Man of Steel will debut on June 14.
