Seth MacFarlane 'asked to return as 2014 Oscars host'

Seth MacFarlane has reportedly been invited to return as host of the 2014 Oscars.

Despite a mixed response to his sometimes controversial performance earlier this year, the Academy Awards organisers have asked him to return, according to Just Jared.

"After defending his performance, the producers reached out to Seth and invited him back to host the show again," said a source close to the Family Guy creator.

"He's not sure if he's going to do it, but he has to decide within the next couple of weeks."

The 2013 Oscars drew 40.3 million more viewers than the previous awards ceremony, which saw the return of veteran host Billy Crystal.

Justin Timberlake has also been rumoured to be in the running to host the next event.

Oscar producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan have defended MacFarlane's "irreverent" performance.

Following the February show, the comedian said that he would "no way" host again.
