Sony Pictures Classics acquires Jarmusch's 'Only Lovers Left Alive'

Sony Pictures Classics has purchased the North American rights to Jim Jarmusch's Only Lovers Left Alive.

Sony acquired the love story of two vampires on the eve of the feature's Cannes debut, Variety reports.

Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton play the couple in love whose relationship takes a turn due to the wild antics of Swinton's on-screen sister, played by Mia Wasikowska.

The cast also features John Hurt, Anton Yelchin and Jeffrey Wright.

Only Lovers Left Alive was part of this year's Cannes In Competition section. It was produced by Jeremy Thomas of Recorded Picture Company alongside Reinhard Brundig of Pandora Film.

Christos Konstantakopoulos served as executive producer on the drama.

New images of Hiddleston and Swinton in their starring roles were recently released.

An official release date for Only Lovers Left Alive has yet to be announced.
