Russell Crowe: 'Wearing Man of Steel spandex was a holy s**t moment'

Russell Crowe has made light of having to wear spandex in Man of Steel.

Crowe admitted to Extra that he was totally unprepared to wear the clingy clothing while playing Superman's father Jor-El.

"I didn't realise I was getting the spandex as well, which was a bit of a holy s**t moment," the actor recalled.

He went on to joke that wearing spandex "absolutely" ensured that he stayed in shape throughout Man of Steel's production.

"I really enjoyed wearing it," he added. "There's something kind of cool about that four layers of spandex that just made you feel really powerful and you couldn't walk anywhere without people just going 'hmmmm'."

The role of Jor-El was famously played by Marlon Brando in Richard Donner's original Superman film in 1978.

Man of Steel director Zack Snyder recently suggested that his goal for the film was to make Superman "cool" again.

The movie opens in cinemas on June 14. Watch a trailer below:
