Portman will take a lead role in the high school drama, reports Deadline.

Dare Me centres around the arrival of Coach French, who upsets varsity cheerleaders Addy Hanlon and Beth Cassidy's domination of the school.

The new coach seems the perfect fit for the school, until a series of shocking events brings the eyes of the police down on her and her squad.

Portman will next be seen in Thor: The Dark World, Terence Malick's Knight of Cups and Jane Got a Gun.

Dare Me has been adapted by Abbott herself.
