Benedict Cumberbatch to be honoured at BAFTA LA Britannia Awards

Benedict Cumberbatch is to be honoured at the 2013 BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards.

The Sherlock star has been named 'British Artist of the Year', and will receive the prize at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on November 9.

The annual award recognises a British artist who has displayed outstanding performances over the past year.

Daniel Craig, Kate Winslet, Tilda Swinton, Helena Bonham Carter, Emily Blunt, Michael Sheen and Rachel Weisz are past winners of the award.

Cumberbatch has starred in War Horse and Star Trek Into Darkness among other projects over the period considered.

He will next appear as Julian Assange in the upcoming drama The Fifth Estate, followed by Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave, and as the dragon Smaug in the next Hobbit instalment.

George Clooney will receive the 'Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film' at the ceremony, while Kathryn Bigelow will receive the 'John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing'. Sir Ben Kingsley will also receive the 'Albert R Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Entertainment'.

The show will air on BBC America on November 10.
