"I cannot wait to host the Gotham Awards as I've always wanted to meet Batman in person," Kroll joked in a statement.

"This is just one example of the soon-to-be classic jokes I will bring to this celebrated event. Seriously, it's an honour to be asked by IFP."

The Gotham Independent Film Awards were founded in 1991, initially to pay tribute to films produced in the Northeastern section of the US.

Kroll is currently prepping the second season of his Comedy Central series, which will premiere in early 2014.

He also appeared on The Comedy Central Roast of James Franco earlier in the year.
