The film studio has revealed that the computer-animated movie will be released in 2018.
The plot of the movie will focus on Moana Waialiki, who is a Polynesian sea-voyager, navigator and chief's daughter.
She embarks on a journey to help her family in the story, which will also feature spirits and mythological figures from history.
The movie will be directed by John Musker and Ron Clements. The directing duo have previously been behind The Princess and the Frog, Aladdin and The Little Mermaid. Moana will the the duo's first computer-animated film.
It was recently revealed that a new Peter Pan movie will be released in 2015, while a remake of The Jungle Book has been eyed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.
