Collecting his prize after winning Best Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture at the ceremony, Douglas sent his love to his absent spouse and his three children.

He rounded off his speech, saying: "To Catherine, Carys, Cameron and Dylan - all my love."

The actor - who was awarded the gong for his role as Liberace in HBO's Behind the Candelabra - also praised his co-star Matt Damon.

Douglas described Damon as "the greatest, the bravest, talented actor I've ever worked with".

He added: "The only reason you're not here is because I had more sequins."

Douglas also went on thank the "great producers" and the "wonderful cast", as well as acknowledging the costume and production designers.
