The 26-year-old actor was touted for a role in the Disney film last year, along with the likes of Ryan Gosling and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Asked by MTV about the possibility of starring in the JJ Abrams-directed film, Efron said: "Yeah, I just went and met with them. So I don't know. It would be cool. I love [the Star Wars movies], I love them, but… who knows?"
Michael Fassbender, Hugo Weaving and Adam Driver are the most recent stars to be linked to Star Wars.
Abrams recently revealed that the film's script is now complete, adding that his team are in "deep prep" for the film, which will be released in 2015.
He also confirmed that he has spoken with Breaking Bad actor Jesse Plemons about a role in Episode VII.
Star Wars Episode VII is scheduled for a December 18, 2015 cinema release.
