According to a report on website Latino Review, The Hangover star was named as a possible new lead for the franchise with Disney reportedly considering recasting the role.
However, Lucasfilm said that the claim "isn't true", while Frank Marshall - producer on all four previous Indiana Jones outings - took to Twitter to rubbish the rumour.
Due to the ridiculous rumours that keep popping up, like agents pipe dreams, I will stop commenting on our projects until I have real news.— Frank Marshall (@LeDoctor) March 26, 2014
"I can only confirm that Katy Perry will NOT be the new Indiana Jones," he later added.
The whip-cracking archaeologist has been portrayed by actors other than Ford in the past, with River Phoenix playing a younger version of the character in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Sean Patrick Flanery portrayed the character in The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles TV series in the early '90s.
Disney secured the rights to future Indiana Jones films from Paramount in December.
