Johnny Depp to reprise journalist role

The actor starred as his friend in the film adaptation of his first novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas in 1998.
The Departed producer Graham King has now acquired the rights to film Thompson's autobiographical book The Rum Diary and will produce the film with Depp starring.
Benicio Del Toro, who appeared in Fear and Loathing... was reportedly asked to direct the film and Josh Hartnett was linked to it, but both are now no longer involved.
It is hoped filming will start when Depp finishes his next movie, crime drama Shantaram.
