Crowe to play 'Star Trek' villain?

Crowe in 'Gladiator'

Russell Crowe has been targeted to play a villain in the new Star Trek movie, say reports.

The film's director, J.J. Abrams, is supposedly very keen to persuade the Gladiator star into appearing as an evil character in what will be the eleventh movie in the franchise.

A source told the Daily Express: "Russell is definitely considering J.J. Abrams' offer. Russell was always a Star Trek fan as a kid, which is a big bonus.

"A baddie would seem more likely for Russell. He could play a part in the historic movie without having to compete with any of the original cast's performances."

Rumours about Crowe and the movie follows news that Tom Cruise may also be due to make an appearance in the sci-fi film.
.
December 2008 is the current release date.
