Hanks elected to Oscar Academy

Hanks, who has won Best Actor Oscars for his appearances in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump, was appointed to the role last night.
The Da Vinci Code star has previously worked as a governor for the actors' branch of the organisation.
Film Producer Sid Ganis was re-elected for his third straight term as the President of the institution.
Ganis worked as a producer on films such as Mr Deeds and Big Daddy.
Speaking about his election, Ganis said: "I'm truly honoured to have the opportunity to serve as president of the Academy. There are so many interesting projects going on in the organisation. I'm excited to have the chance to help steer those along and bring even more to our wide-reaching agenda."
