Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson is making a film about occult legend Aleister Crowley.

Chemical Wedding stars veteran actor Simon Callow as a Cambridge university professor who becomes possessed by the infamous mystic's soul.

Dickinson, who penned the screenplay, said he came up with the idea after working with director Julian Doyle on the video for the Iron Maiden track 'Can I Play With Madness'.

The heavy metal star is a long-time fan of Crowley, who claimed to be the devil and was notorious as the "wickedest man in the world" before his death in 1947.

He is convinced that Iron Maiden fans will enjoy the movie, saying: "On several levels, I think it will be nice for them to see somebody from Maiden doing something else that gets the band's name out there and also potentially gets a bit of respect for heavy metal and all the rest of it."

He added: "But, in addition, I think they'll just enjoy it. It's a rollicking good story."

Dickinson will make a cameo appearance in the film, which is due for release next autumn.
