Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha is to helm a movie that has been dubbed "a teenage Bridget Jones".
Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging follows the character of stroppy teenager Georgia Nicholson and her traumas of growing up.
Based on the book by Louise Rennison, shooting for the film will soon begin in locations across Brighton, Eastbourne and London.
She said: "In Georgia we have a wonderful character that anyone who is a stroppy teenager, or has ever been a stroppy teenager, will completely relate to and understand how parents, teachers and in fact the world conspires against you just as you are bursting with adulthood - a kind of Bridget Jones at 14 - but with more attitude!
"I was drawn to just how real and funny Georgia is and that's why she and the books have such a huge international readership."
