Owen Wilson has given the go-ahead to a film in which he stars as a man with suicidal tendencies, and said he would be "very happy" for it to be released.
The Wedding Crashers actor reportedly tried to commit suicide last month and was found at his Santa Monica home having taken an overdose of drugs and with slit wrists.
In his latest movie role in The Darjeeling Limited, Wilson is also shown trying to commit suicide by deliberately crashing his motorcycle.
Director Wes Anderson had planned to postpone the release of the film in light of the circumstances, but he has insisted that Wilson told him that he did not want the release date to be moved.
Anderson said: "That's not what I want and not what Owen wants. Owen's very happy we're releasing it now."
Screenwriter Roman Coppola added: "There's the show business adage of 'the show must go on'. We're all sympathetic about our friend's well-being. I haven't spoken with him about this but I think he'd be very eager that the film be shown. He's proud of the work we did.
"In terms of art and personal life echoing one another, that's the proper way to make a movie."
